12 patients in the Infectious Diseases Clinic with COVID-19, one in serious condition

This morning, the 27th victim of Covid-19 was recorded in Kosovo. The patient who passed away is a 63-year-old woman from Dragash, who, in addition to the coronavirus infection, also had chronic kidney disease and other concomitant diseases.

Infectious disease specialist Valbon Krasniqi said that 12 patients are currently being treated at this clinic, while four patients who recovered from coronavirus were discharged today.

"At the moment, we have 12 patients affected by Covid-19 in the clinic. The health condition of nine of them is very good, while two people are on oxygen therapy. Meanwhile, in the intensive care unit, we continue to have a 73-year-old man in very serious condition, who, in addition to being supervised by an infectious disease specialist in collaboration with an anesthesiologist, is being monitored 24 hours a day in intensive care and his condition is assessed as critical," said Krasniqi.

He also spoke about the death of the 27th victim from COVID-19 in Kosovo, who is a patient from Dragash.

"Today in the morning hours, a 63-year-old woman from the municipality of Dragash, who was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Clinic 12-13 days ago, did not manage to survive the infection. It is true that in addition to the infection, she also had kidney failure, and as a result, she was on regular chronic dialysis, a disease of diabetes," adds Krasniqi.

Among other things, he says that last night, two cases were admitted to the Infectious Diseases Clinic, where a 2-year-old child and her mother showed more pronounced symptoms of the virus, but are now in stable condition.

"Yesterday, two new cases with positive Covid were received at the Clinic, but they are not patients who were confirmed yesterday, they were confirmed somewhere on the 26th of last month. They are cases who have been at home, and because they have manifested some symptoms of the disease, they have come to the clinic. It is a mother with her daughter, 2 years old and 10 months old. Their condition is currently stable," said Krasniqi.

Infectious disease specialist Krasniqi says that of these 12 patients, the oldest case is the 80-year-old patient, but that there are also younger patients, but according to him, they are in stable condition.

He says that despite the small number of cases that have been reported in recent days, citizens should continue to maintain personal hygiene and be careful with physical distancing.

"We still have several outbreaks in different settlements in Kosovo, we still have a large number of contact persons who are being monitored by teams in the field, and despite the fact that we should breathe more freely, we should not have a general relaxation yet. We still need to be attentive, we need to closely monitor the epidemiological situation at the country level. In case new cases appear, I would advise citizens to continue to cover their faces and mouths," said Krasniqi.

In Kosovo, 860 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, 533 have recovered, and 27 have died.
