Request for holding Municipal Assembly sessions approved
The Ministry of Local Government Administration, in consultation with the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Public Health, has approved the request of the Association of Municipalities to hold Municipal Assemblies.
The Association of Kosovo Municipalities announces that a few days ago it addressed the request of the municipalities to start holding sessions of the Municipal Assemblies.
"We request and believe that the time has come for municipalities to be allowed to organize regular meetings of Municipal Assemblies because we have many different issues and in order for these to find solutions, decisions of the Municipal Assemblies are also required. In this case, we request from the MLGA to begin reviewing the legality of the decisions of the Municipal Assemblies" - stated the request of the Municipalities addressed through the Association of Municipalities to the central institutions of Kosovo.
The MLGA, after consultations with the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Public Health, has returned the response to the Mayors: "Municipal Assemblies can begin implementing their approved work plan for 2020, respectively, they can resume holding meetings of the Municipal Assemblies.
"These activities of the Municipal Assemblies can be carried out through video conferences, where possible, in the meantime, if necessary actions are taken due to the emergency situation, the meetings can be held in suitable, open and well-ventilated environments, with distance between each other, in full compliance with WHO standards. This means that the municipalities are obliged, when holding the meetings of the Municipal Assemblies, to correctly respect the measures determined by the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (NIPH) and the Ministry of Health, such as: physical distancing measures, wearing masks and gloves, disinfection of public spaces where the Assembly meetings are held, etc." The MLGA has also announced that it will begin to conduct administrative review of the acts of the Municipalities - in connection with our request in this matter," the statement says.
