Three years since the fall of the LDK-PDK government
Today, three years have passed since the vote of no confidence in the government of Kosovo, initiated by the opposition and supported by the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
The position of the Democratic Party of Kosovo was decisive in the case of the opposition's motion. PDK has given support to the opposition's motion for the overthrow of the Government of Kosovo. 78 MPs voted for the motion, 34 MPs voted against it and 3 MPs abstained.
This vote resulted in the fall of the current government of Kosovo, led by Isa Mustafa.
PDK's vote for the motion also meant the decision to break the coalition with the Democratic League of Kosovo and Prime Minister Isa Mustafa.
The PDK has justified its decision with the fact that the current government has lost its decision-making power, attributing it especially to the failure of the procedure for ratification in the Assembly of the Agreement for the demarcation of the border with Montenegro.
PDK's decision to topple the government and break up the coalition, LDK deputies, during their speeches, described as a scenario prepared earlier in cooperation with the opposition.
The session was permeated with debates, accusations and controversies between PDK and LDK deputies, until now, the partner party in the governing coalition.
The opposition parties have 'marked' this day as a victory over the government.
After the vote, the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, issued the decree for the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.
"After receiving the official notification from the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has decreed the dissolution of the fifth legislature", the president's announcement states.
On the basis of the coalition between PDK and LDK, the Government of Kosovo was established on December 9, 2014, with 73 votes of deputies. The coalition agreement also included the Serbian List and the parties of non-Serb communities.
This coalition was built on the principles of the division of positions and power, which meant that the PDK took under the leadership the post of the president and the speaker of the Assembly, while the LDK that of the prime minister.
In addition to the program points for economic development, alleviating unemployment and creating well-being for citizens, this government also took international commitments such as: establishing and starting the work of the Special Court for war crimes, continuing the dialogue with Serbia and implementing agreements, with emphasis on the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, and in the meantime, he also took the pledge to ratify the demarcation of the border with Montenegro, as a condition for the liberalization of visas.
