7 etiquette rules everyone should follow at the gym
For all those who engage in sports activities in a gym, there are some rules they should know before stepping foot inside.
It's rare for a gym to present you with a "rule book" when you sign up, as you are expected to be aware of certain etiquette rules.
Here's a list of the 7 most annoying habits people exhibit at the gym.
Not placing equipment in its place
This is the most common mistake people make. They use the equipment and leave it messy after they're done, and expect the gym staff to take care of it. So, every time you use a piece of equipment, put it back in its proper place. Leaving the equipment messy creates an unpleasant environment for others.
Dropping weights with noise
No matter how long you've been training or how tired you are, you should never drop weights on the ground with a bang. The noise can disturb others and can even cause accidents. Sit down slowly and gently place the weights back in their place.
Talking on the phone loudly
You are not alone in the gym, there are other people around. Talking loudly on the phone is a big “NO”. No one will be part of your conversation. Realistically, you should not carry your phone with you when you work out, but if it is about something important and you absolutely have to answer it, then you should leave the premises where others are working out.
To create too much company
The gym is a place where you work out, and as such, you should focus on that. While it can be fun to chat a little with your friend who works out at the same gym, try not to overdo it. If you stand in the middle of the gym and start a conversation, it will only annoy others.
Sitting on devices for a long time
It's important to take a few seconds of rest between exercises, but you shouldn't extend this rest period from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Many people do intense exercises for 1 minute and then look at Instagram for 10 minutes before starting the next exercise. This behavior is not good. If you are going to take a 10-minute break, then give someone else a chance to use the machine.
Leave the place sweating.
If you're done exercising on the machines, wipe off the sweat when you get up. No one wants to work out in a sweaty place.
Consuming food in the training environment
The need to eat something before or after a workout is normal, but don't do it at the gym. It's completely forbidden!
