A Swiss municipality is experimenting with four-day school: Only six weeks of vacation for children
The municipality of Belp is testing a new educational model where children go to school four days a week from 08:00 to 16:30, while holidays are reduced from 13 to just 6 weeks a year. The idea is to create more structure and stability for children, combining learning and care throughout the day, albinfo.ch reports.
The pilot will last about 18 months and will be evaluated by the University of Bern for Teacher Education. Community opinion is divided: some support it as a help for families, others think that holidays are insufficient for children to relax.
