After the final whistle, an Albanian family in Schwamendingen was attacked by a disappointed Serbian fan.
On Saturday evening, the World Cup qualifying match between Albania and Serbia ended with a 1-0 victory for Albania. The atmosphere was not only heated in Leskovac, Serbia, where the match was played, albinfo.ch reports.
Emotions ran high in Zurich as well. After the final whistle, an Albanian family in Schwamendingen was attacked by a disappointed Serbian fan, as reported by "Blick".
A father, mother and their ten-year-old daughter were driving through the city when this happened. The Mercedes was decorated with an Albanian flag to celebrate the victory.
On Ueberlandstrasse in Schwamendingen, they encountered a large group of people, including Serbia fans.
The mother describes what happened next: "Suddenly, a young man ran towards our car and broke our windshield with a hard object, probably a chain or a belt."
The front window shattered and its pieces flew into the interior of the car, albinfo.ch reports. "The broken glass flew all the way to the back seat, where our daughter was sitting," the mother said.
The family escaped in terror. But: “The explosion was so strong that we were all shocked.”
Zurich City Police have confirmed an intervention on Ueberlandstrasse, Zurich.
