An avalanche swept through a ski resort in Italy (View)

Incredible footage has gone viral on social media of an avalanche that crashed down a steep slope near the Italian ski resort of Courmayeur on Tuesday. The video was recorded by skiers at the scene and it is not yet known if anyone was injured. Just days earlier, two skiers died in a similar incident at the same resort.

The final footage shows a pile of snow and ice coming towards the skiers through the tall pine trees as they watch in disbelief. At one point, panic sets in and visitors try to escape, but are covered in a cloud of snow.

The previous accident occurred on Sunday on the Couloir Vesses, a popular free-skiing route in the Courmayeur ski resort, the Italian Mountain Rescue Service said. The avalanche involved three men. One of them died at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Courmayeur is a small town of about 2,900 inhabitants in Northwestern Italy.Indeksonline/
