Angelina Jolie talks about her decision to remove her breasts and ovaries: I don't regret it
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has said she has no regrets about her decision to undergo a double mastectomy and remove her ovaries ten years ago, after discovering she carried the rare BRCA gene, which is linked to a higher risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.
In an interview with Hello! magazine, Jolie explained that her decision was deeply personal and influenced by family history. Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died in 2007, at the age of 56, after a long battle with breast and ovarian cancer. Her grandmother also died of the same disease.
"I decided to do it because this is what took my mother's life. I'm not saying everyone should do the same thing, but it's important to have a choice," Jolie said.
In her latest film, Couture, Jolie plays a woman who faces a breast cancer diagnosis and struggles with chemotherapy and hair loss. She said she hopes the story will give voice to the experiences of women who feel hurt and alone, and bring them together through empathy and strength.
