Apple delays HomePod debut to 2018
Apple has pushed back HomePod plans for 2018 from December of this year which was originally planned.
The company announced the news today, saying:
"We're excited to deliver the HomePod experience, but we need more time before we can ship it to consumers. First sales begin in the US, UK, and Australia in early 2018."
Apple introduced the HomePod in June. The speaker, which can suggest music and change the room temperature, is a direct rival to Amazon Alexa and Echo devices.
The move is the first in a new space for Apple after two full years as the most valuable technology company on the planet, which watched as iPhone sales fell day by day and saw the need to discover new ways to generate revenue.
Apple's digital assistant, Siri, will be integrated into the $349 box. The HomePod measures 18 cm and is covered by a fabric mesh.
