Bekë Berisha resigns from the position of President of the Pristina City Council
Bekë Berisha has resigned from the position of president of the Prishtina basketball club.
According to Tëvë1, Berisha offered his resignation at the leadership meeting on Saturday evening, just a few days after the politician and MP was unexpectedly elected the new chairman of the Pristina club, in the Extraordinary Assembly.
The reason for the resignation was a decision by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MKYS), suggesting that Bekë Berisha cannot be both a member of parliament and the president of the Prishtina basketball club, as this constitutes a conflict of interest.
In a reaction on social media, the MCYS said that the Law on Prevention of Conflict of Interest provides that an official may be a member of the governing body of NGOs in the field of sports, but not a holder of a management function. According to the MCYS, any conflict of interest situation must be resolved within 30 days of taking office.
Berisha's election was met with harsh reactions from fans of the "Plisat" club, who have been demanding the removal of the leadership for some time now.
