Chinese manufacturers overtake Audi and Renault in European sales

In August, Chinese manufacturers sold more than 43,500 vehicles to European customers, a 121 percent increase compared to the same period a year earlier.

Audi sold 41,300 vehicles to Europeans in August, and Renault 37,800. Plug-in hybrid sales rose 59 percent in August in the 28-member European Union, to almost 84,000 vehicles.

About 13 percent of those vehicles, or 11,000, were Chinese models. Chinese companies increased their sales by up to 14 times compared to the same period a year earlier, according to analysts at JATO Dynamics.
