Croatia makes record cigarette seizure in truck

The Mobile Unit of the Customs Administration stopped a truck with Croatian signs behind the toll booths. It was unbelievable when they saw the truck's load. Behind two rows of metal sheets were stacked boxes of cigarettes – a total of 615,000 boxes!

This is one of the largest seizures of smuggled cigarettes in Croatia.

A specially trained tobacco detection dog reacted to the possible presence of tobacco products – as the customs officers suspected, this was reason enough to unload the entire contents of the truck.

The truck driver tried to cross to the Slovenian side, but was prevented from doing so and was handed over to the detention supervisor last night and the competent municipal state prosecutor's office was also informed about everything. After the first boxes of smuggled cigarettes were discovered, each box was opened and counted and the confiscated cigarettes were classified. /Indeksonline/
