Death toll from Spain train crash rises to 42

The death toll from a train crash in Spain has risen to 42, according to Spanish media.

Rescue and recovery operations at the crash site are ongoing.

The accident occurred on the evening of January 18 near the town of Adamuz, Andalusia.

An Iryo high-speed train, travelling from Malaga to Madrid with around 300 passengers, derailed and entered the opposite line, colliding with a Renfe high-speed train travelling from Madrid to Huelva.

This train also derailed. The cause of the accident remains unknown.

According to El Mundo, investigators are focusing on the condition of the railway tracks along the Madrid-Andalusia section as a possible factor in the accident.
