This year, 97 citizens have died as a result of road accidents.
The third week of each November marks the International Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. Police statistics show that the number of deaths in road accidents has increased. According to experts in the field, speed and carelessness remain among the main causes. Law enforcement agencies continue to call for increased caution in traffic.
This year, 97 citizens have died as a result of road accidents, a higher figure compared to the 83 victims last year. In the framework of the International Day of Victims of Traffic Accidents, the police have launched an awareness campaign for both drivers and pedestrians.
"Today begins the week of activities to commemorate road traffic victims. It is a global week, a global activity, during which every year, in the third week of November, the International Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is marked. Together with local partners, we try our best to raise awareness among the audience and traffic participants about the importance of road safety through awareness campaigns and joint activities. We continue to lobby and convey the message so that we do not become part of the statistics," said Sara Fusha, campaign coordinator.
"Even the 10-year-old activities, regarding the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, have been part of almost all events, meetings, openings, lectures and field participation, including checkpoints with police officers. This shows the direct impact that road traffic has on its participants. This time too, we will try, through the activities planned from today until Sunday, to be part of these activities with the sole purpose of ensuring that road safety is at the most satisfactory level," said Jeton Rexhepi, Lieutenant Colonel at the Kosovo Police.
This day should not only be a memorial, but a moment to strengthen the culture of road safety to save lives, RTK writes.
The International Day of Remembrance for Victims of Urban Trafficking will be marked with a campaign that will feature awareness-raising activities throughout the week.
