Free mammography in all cities, MoH provides details about the breast cancer awareness campaign
October is the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness.
Throughout the month, the Ministry of Health will carry out an awareness campaign about this disease, the risks it poses, its treatment, and above all, will offer free checkups.
In a statement for IndeksOnline, from the ministry claim that together with the National Institute of Public Health they are working on the implementation of the activities foreseen for this month. In fact, a working group has been appointed that is continuously monitoring important activities.
"Regarding the mobile mammogram, there is great interest from women who are going to get mammograms."
Unlike previous years, some municipalities have made static mammography functional in family medicine centers, but there are still some municipalities that have not managed to do so.
For this reason, we have included them in the mobile mammography calendar, which can only perform 15 mammograms in one day, so the interest is greater than the capacity, however, women are instructed to then go to the nearest center to have the mammogram done," it is stated in the response of the Ministry of Health, for IndeksOnline.
Reiterating that mammography has been free of charge throughout Kosovo since last year, the Ministry claims that they will wait for the end of the campaign to obtain complete data on the use of mammography.
"Activities, in addition to mammography, also include lectures in schools, podcasts on RTK, as well as activities of organizations and companies that are supporting this common cause for awareness and prevention. This cause is not only important, but also vital for women and girls in the first place," the ministry stated.
Awareness and treatment of this disease is extremely important, and in most cases even decisive. Last year alone, 640 new cases of breast cancer were registered in Kosovo./IndeksOnline/
