Germany bans sale of smartwatches for children
German authorities have banned the sale of smartwatches for children, saying they have been used for surveillance.
A similar move was applied to the My Friend Cayla doll for the same reasons.
They also warned parents to destroy these devices. In an official announcement, the authorities said that they had also taken measures against firms that sell such products.
Such devices are usually dedicated to small ages from 5 to 12 years old. Most of them have a SIM card and limited phone functionality that is accessed through an app.
Some of them stored data without encryption. This means that hackers could hack it using even the most basic techniques.
It is not known whether such a decision taken by German authorities came as a result of privacy concerns or real security problems. /PCWorld Albanian
