Sallahu: We will not allow the victims to remain isolated

Members of the Local Coordination Mechanisms for protection from domestic violence, violence against women and gender-based violence came together this Monday, where the Regulation for the Local Coordination Mechanisms for protection from domestic violence, violence against women and gender-based violence, as well as the Administrative Instruction for determining the procedure for providing services from the emergency fund for the needs of victims during their stay in police stations, were presented and discussed.

Acting Minister of Justice, Blerim Sallahu, has called this an important moment, where, according to him, the state, society and communities cooperate to stop violence and protect the dignity of every human being.

"For the first time, the local level has officially reported its work to the central level. This occurs within the framework of the implementation of a legal obligation, and is the result of an effort by the government and institutions to give local level coordination mechanisms a clear, structured, and mandatory role," said Minister Sallahu.

He added that, according to the regulation, the duties and responsibilities of the local coordination mechanism include identifying victims' support needs, coordinating policies and services, drafting action plans, collecting and analyzing data, and raising awareness for zero tolerance to violence.

Sallahu said that changing social norms are best addressed when there is synchronization between law, practice, and social culture.

"When local mechanisms report to the central level, they give society a clear message: we will not allow the problem to remain silent. We will not allow victims to remain isolated. We are a nation that faces the truth and wants to build the path towards a family, a community, a society, where violence has no place," he said.
