How did today's constituent session go? The Assembly publishes the report
The sessions for the constitution continued today in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.
As usual in previous sessions, the name of Albulena Haxhiu was initially proposed for Speaker.
With the failure of her election, LVV proposed the name of Donika Gërvalla for this position, writes IndeksOnline.
But, even Gërvalla did not receive enough votes to become the speaker of the legislature: 57 in favor, 56 against, 3 abstentions.
On this occasion, the chairman of the session, Avni Dehari, invited the deputies to the next session, which will be held on August 22.
This is the report published by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo:
Following the Constitutional Court's verdict, the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo convened today in the continuation of the constitutive session of the Ninth Legislature, with two remaining items: the election of the President of the Assembly and the election of the Vice-Presidents.
Chairman Avni Dehari asked the largest parliamentary entity, namely the Vetëvendosje Movement, to propose a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly.
On behalf of the Vetëvendosje Movement, MP Glauk Konjufca proposed MP Albulena Haxhiu for Speaker of the Parliament.
Out of 116 MPs present in the hall, 57 MPs voted for the proposed candidate, 56 were against, while three abstained.
Chairman Dehari concluded that based on the results, the proposed candidate did not receive enough votes to be elected Speaker of the Assembly. Consequently, he requested another proposal for Speaker of the Assembly from the largest parliamentary entity.
MP Konjufca proposed MP Donika Gërvalla Schwarz for Speaker of the Assembly. After the voting process, the chair of the session determined that with 57 votes in favor, 56 against and three abstentions, the proposed candidate did not receive enough votes for Speaker of the Assembly.
Under these circumstances, Chairman Dehari adjourned the session for today, announcing its continuation on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00.
