Katy Perry reveals the reason for her split from Orlando Bloom in new song

Katy Perry seems to have opened a very personal chapter with her newest song, "Bandaids," where she sings about trying to save a relationship that is fading.

The 41-year-old split from actor Orlando Bloom in June after nearly a decade together. On Thursday, she released the song and video, and both the lyrics and the visuals seem like a reflection of the end of their relationship.

“With my hand on my heart, I swear I tried / I left no stone unturned,” Perry sings. “It’s not what you did / It’s what you didn’t do / You were there, but you weren’t.”

In another verse, she admits to frustration and emotional exhaustion:

"I got so used to the fact that you disappointed me / There's no point in sending flowers now."
I told myself you would change, but you don't / Bandage on a broken heart."

In the second verse, the lyrics hint at the steps she has taken to keep the relationship alive:

“I tried every 'medicine' / I lowered my expectations.
I found endless excuses / slowly 'bleeding out'.”

Further, she refers to the lack of effort from the partner:

"It's not that complicated / to ask me how my day went."
"I'm on the last line of life trying to save this."

The music video further delves into this metaphor. In one scene, Katy is shown in the kitchen, washing dishes, and in the meantime, her ring falls into the sink. She reaches in to retrieve it, but inadvertently turns on the grinder and her hands are covered in blood - a strong symbolic image for the pain and emotional damage that comes from trying to hold on to a relationship.

This detail is not accidental: in September 2024, Katy Perry humorously revealed in a podcast that she "rewarded" her partner when he did housework, especially when washing dishes, an element that fans immediately associated with the "Bandaids" music video.

Although the song is about hurt and disappointment, the message is ultimately not bitter. Perry admits that, even though the relationship is over, she has no regrets:

"If I had to go through it again / I would go through it the same way."
The love we made was worth it in the end."

Although she doesn't mention Orlando Bloom by name anywhere, the video does give some clear clues. At one point, she sees a daisy, a direct reference to her 5-year-old daughter, Daisy, who she has with Bloom.
