Konjufca: Our war, the war of the people of Kosovo, was a just war

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Glauk Konjufca, is staying in The Hague, where the closing statements of the former KLA leaders will be heard today.

Before entering the Special Court building, Konjufca declared to the media that the leaders of the Liberation Army are innocent, writes IndeksOnline.

"They have already received an unjust punishment, because the process lasted so long that I claim, and we all claim together, that a basic human right was violated, which is protected by the United Nations Convention, the European Convention on Human Rights, but also by our Constitution. This is the right for a person to be tried within a reasonable time. This right, I think, was violated in a violent way, because it has been five years and three months that these KLA leaders have been kept isolated and away from their families and their state. This is the first thing I want to say. It was a brutal violation of the right to a reasonable trial within a reasonable time.

Konjufca said that there has always been criticism of this court, which was mono-ethnic and unfairly focused on the Kosovo Liberation Army.

"I am here to confirm once again that our war, the war of the people of Kosovo, was a just war. It was a clean war, it was a defensive war, the aim of this war was not to attack any other people. The only target of the KLA uniforms was the Serbian police and army. The uniformed occupiers who committed genocide in Kosovo, who killed children and women, who killed the elderly, and who murdered over 12 thousand citizens of our republic. The war of the Liberation Army was directed against these people," Konjufca added.
