After pretending to be disabled for 11 years, Kosovar receives almost half a million francs from Switzerland
For eleven years, 65-year-old Jeton cheated on his disability pension until a social detective discovered it. Doctors were not entirely innocent either, as they easily confirmed that the impostor was unable to work, writes the Aargauer Zeitung.
When workers from the Aargau Social Insurance Institute (SVA) visited Jeton, he lay on the sofa in an apathetic manner. He answered questions in a confused manner, either not at all or pretending to be asleep. His relatives then declared that his condition was bad and unchangeable, that he could barely function independently.
And so, for the past eleven years, the 65-year-old has received funds – pension IV, daily sickness insurance, pension fund – to the value of almost half a million francs, the “Aargauer Zeitung” further writes, Albinfo.ch informs. That is why he has now appeared in court. Charge: commercial fraud.
In 2003, when Jetoni was still working as an assistant cook, he was treated by his family doctor. Among other things, because of the simulations. According to him, he was afraid and helpless. The doctor and also a psychiatrist, diagnosed him with a mental illness and thus a complete inability to work.
But after several years, during which Jeton repeatedly claimed he was unable to work, the Aargau SVA became suspicious and monitored him for seven days. He was observed leaving home alone, shopping alone, and eating with his wife in a Migros restaurant, holding his tray and talking animatedly to other people.
In court, he defended himself by asking to work, but the doctor had told him he couldn't. He denied ever playing. In fact, the court reprimanded the doctors he was seeing. In particular, the family doctor had issued him a certificate of incapacity in an extremely careless manner.
Jetoni, who came to Switzerland from Kosovo at the age of 22, was sentenced to 24 months in prison and a three-year probationary period. He must also pay a fine of 4000 francs.
