Kurti from Davos: One party did not want a meeting at all, one wanted the post of speaker of parliament with three MPs
Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti from Davos, Switzerland, has blamed the opposition for the new elections, underlining that the lack of cooperation from the opposition brought about the new elections and the good result for him, reports Ekonomia Online.
"First of all, we didn't go to new elections because we wanted to. This was not our intention but was a consequence of the lack of cooperation with the opposition. We won 42.3 percent in February but it wasn't enough. We tried everything. We tried to meet with one or two opposition political parties," he declared in a conversation with Rory Stewart in Davos, Switzerland.
Kurti mentioned the case of the LDK not wanting to meet with him at all, as well as Fatmir Limaj's 'ambition' for the post of Speaker of Parliament while it had 'only three MPs'.
"One of them didn't want to meet, one of them wanted the (post of) speaker of parliament with only three MPs. Then, they didn't accept our proposed name for speaker of parliament, even though we replaced that name dozens of times. The opposition again said 'no' to everyone. Then, I replaced my name with my deputy in the party, Glauk Konjufca, who was speaker of parliament and would be deputy prime minister and foreign minister. They still said no," Kurti said.
He says that these actions brought about new elections, which he says, 'although he didn't want them, he was ready for them'.
"So, throughout 2025, it was clear to people that we didn't have a government not because we didn't win the elections but because nobody wanted to cooperate with us. So, I think if I wanted new elections, people would punish me. I didn't want new elections, but if new elections were there, I better be ready. So there were consequences from the opposition's non-cooperation," Kurti said.
