Police identify Strasbourg attack suspect, has criminal past

French police have identified the suspect who opened fire near a Christmas market in Strasbourg last night.

The suspect is Cherif Chekatt, 29, who according to police has a violent past, writes 'Daily Mail', reports Indeksonline.

The 29-year-old has a criminal record with the Police, having previously threatened the French state and security services.

According to a source close to the investigation, he was sentenced to two years in prison in 2011 for a knife attack on a 16-year-old.

Yesterday, French officials confirmed that he was on the list for reasons related to radicalization.

Otherwise, the number of people killed in this attack is three and 12 others injured, six of whom are in serious condition.Indeksonline/
