Power cuts are back

On Tuesday, parts of the country faced power cuts again. The Electricity Distribution Company – KESCO has announced that the cuts were back due to difficult winter conditions.

"This is due to low temperatures and a significant increase in electricity consumption, due to increased use for heating," KESCO said in a statement.

It also states that Kosovo's electricity system is currently operating under difficult conditions, while domestic energy production is limited, forcing an increase in the need for imports. "However, the possibilities for securing energy from imports are limited due to the technical conditions of the electricity system in which Kosovo operates, making it difficult to fully cover demand at any time."

KESCO has emphasized that it is using all opportunities to secure energy, including long-term contracts and purchases in short-term markets, but in such periods, full coverage of demand is impossible. For this reason, the company has appealed to consumers to save electricity, by taking concrete measures to reduce its use, especially during peak hours.

"Power reductions are necessary to maintain the stability of the power system and ensure a continuous supply of energy to all citizens. This is a challenging period, but we remain committed to fulfilling our obligations to customers," the announcement states.

To alleviate the situation, KESCO has requested the cooperation of citizens and institutions to save energy and contribute to maintaining the stability of the system. The company is also working in close cooperation with the relevant authorities to minimize the potential impact of the reductions on the daily lives of citizens.

Among other things, KESCO has requested the understanding and cooperation of citizens, while appealing for increased caution in the use of electricity.
