Shooting at University of South Carolina, two dead, reports say
Two people were killed and another was injured after a shooting Thursday evening at a South Carolina State University dormitory, causing a campus lockdown, school officials said in a statement.
The shooting was reported at an apartment in the Hugine Suites student residence complex, according to the statement, posted on the university's Facebook page.
Few other official details were immediately available, including whether anyone who carried out the shooting was still at large, Reuters reports.
"University officials have not yet confirmed the identities of the victims or the condition of the injured person," the statement said.
South Carolina State University has more than 3,000 students.
The university said it had asked the State Division of Law Enforcement to investigate the shooting and that Friday's classes had been canceled.
