Speed up your computer with these Windows 11 tips
If you've noticed that Windows 11 is running slower than before, the problem may not be with the hardware, but with the operating system itself.
According to the Neowin portal, two automatically enabled settings in Windows 11 can significantly affect your computer's performance.
The first is the automatic syncing of OneDrive, which constantly checks and updates files between your computer and cloud storage. This process can be processor and internet-intensive, especially on weaker devices or when there are a lot of files to sync.
The second culprit is the visual interface effects, such as animations, semi-transparent windows, and shadows, which make Windows look more modern but consume more memory (RAM) and graphics resources. On computers with less than 8 GB of RAM, this can cause noticeable slowdowns.
Microsoft has confirmed that these settings can affect performance and recommends users adjust them according to their needs.
To improve performance:
Temporarily pause OneDrive sync when working with heavy programs.
In system settings, open the "Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows" option and disable visual effects you don't need.
Update drivers regularly and check which applications are running in the background.
These simple changes can speed up your computer at no extra cost and can extend the life of your device, especially if you're using an older computer.
