Suspected vote buying and theft in a village in Mitrovica, Police are collecting information

Following the conclusion of Sunday's election process in Mitrovica, suspicions of voter fraud have been raised in the village of Shipol in this municipality, while the Kosovo Police has launched the first investigative actions to clarify the allegations.

The spokesperson for the Basic Prosecution of Mitrovica, Valon Preteni, has confirmed that the police are collecting information regarding these suspicions.

"The police are collecting information regarding allegations of voter fraud at this location," Preteni stated.

According to preliminary results from the Central Election Commission (CEC), PDK candidate Arian Tahiri came first with 15,368 votes (47.89%), while Vetëvendosje Movement candidate Faton Peci received 15,340 votes (47.8%), with a difference of only 28 votes.

This close result is expected to lead the two candidates to a runoff, while public opinion has reacted to the discrepancies with exit polls, which had predicted Tahiri's victory in the first round.
