Switzerland will adapt entry rules for certain individuals coming from third countries
As part of the Schengen Agreement, Switzerland has decided to adopt an amendment to a European Union regulation aimed at reinstating, in certain circumstances, the visa requirement for third countries.
These circumstances, according to the Federal Council, may include exceeding migration thresholds, threats to public order and security, or violations of human rights, albinfo.ch reports.
Specifically, the visa exemption granted to a third country could be suspended "as soon as a 30 percent increase (compared to 50 percent previously) is observed in the number of its citizens residing illegally in the Schengen area or who have been refused entry to the territory of a Member State," the government said.
She added that "the suspension mechanism could also be activated against a third country in the event of a significant increase in the number of asylum applications from that country."
