The Kosovo Mountain Search and Rescue Service is accepted as a full member of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR)
On 11.10.2025, after tireless work and continuous dedication, the Kosovo Mountain Search and Rescue Service (KMSR) – which operates under the umbrella of Federation of Equestrian and Sport Climbing of Kosovo (FBNSK) – has been officially accepted as a full member of category “A” in the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR).
ICAR (International Commission for Alpine Rescue) is a global organization that brings together countries and the most advanced mountain search and rescue teams. Since its founding in 1948, ICAR has worked to increase safety, training and international cooperation in mountain operations.
Kosovo, through the ICAR, was represented and officially recognized during the 76th ICAR Congress, which was held in the United States of America, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, from October 7 to 12, 2025. The host of this international congress was "Teton County Search and Rescue".
This achievement is the result of many years of work and dedication by the Kosovo Mountaineering and Hiking Association, marking an important step towards strengthening international cooperation and raising mountain safety standards in the Republic of Kosovo.
This reflects the professional activity of the rescuers as well as the leadership's contribution to the strengthening and further development of the organizational structure, both at the local and international levels.
