The US is ending production of 1-cent coins

The US is about to produce its last one-cent coin.

The Philadelphia Mint will mint its last batch of one-cent coins on Wednesday, after more than 230 years of production. BBC.

The coins will remain in circulation, but their gradual removal has already prompted businesses to start adjusting prices, as they say one-cent coins are becoming harder to find.

The government says the move will save money, or as President Donald Trump said in February when he first announced the plans: "Cut the waste out of our great nation's budget even if it's one cent at a time."
