The US Army tells its soldiers in Germany: Eat where they distribute food to the poor
The US military has recommended that its members stationed in Germany, who are facing a lack of pay due to the budget blockade, seek help from German soup kitchens and institutions that distribute food to the poor, German media reported today.
The US Army Administration stationed at four locations in Bavaria has issued instructions on its website for soldiers on how to deal with missing salaries, the payment of which has been blocked due to a budget dispute in Congress.
Among others, German charitable organizations such as "Tafel" are mentioned, which distribute food to poor citizens in all major cities, writes Indexhr.
About 37,000 American soldiers in Bavaria
About 37,000 US troops are currently stationed in Bavaria. It also shows apps that can be used to get information on where to buy food that is about to expire.
According to German media, the American Garrison of Bavaria has since removed the instructions from its website. In a statement to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily, the US military claims that the instructions were intended for civilian employees, of which there are around 11,000 in Bavaria.
However, the same newspaper claims that Germany has stepped in with a loan of around 43 million euros for the salaries of German citizens employed by the US military. The US is entering the 38th day of the so-called shutdown, due to which salary payments for state employees have been blocked.
