The court today issues a ruling on the 'Medicus' case

The Basic Court in Pristina is expected to announce the verdict today in the retrial of doctors from the "Medicus" clinic, Lutfi Dervishi, who is accused of human trafficking and organized crime, and Sokol Hajdini, accused of serious bodily harm.

During the last session, the defense parties gave their final arguments, once again opposing the indictment filed by the Prosecution.

Lutfi Dervishi's defense attorney, lawyer Valon Hasani, said that the Prosecution has not proven with any evidence that his client has committed any criminal offense, since according to him, Dervishi is not a trafficker nor was he part of any criminal group, therefore he has requested the court to acquit him of the charges.

Meanwhile, Sokol Hajdini's defense attorney, attorney Ramë Gashi, stated that the criminal offense for which his client is accused was committed intentionally and with the intention of causing bodily harm to someone, but according to the attorney, the Prosecution has failed to prove with any evidence that Hajdini committed any element of this criminal offense.

Meanwhile, the accused Lutfi Dervishi said that kidney transplantation is a humanitarian act, not a criminal offense, since according to him, thousands of transplants are performed all over the world, but no one is prosecuted for this, writes Kallxo.com.

Sokol Hajdini has also denied the accusation against him, stating that he has never violated the law during his work and that he has never worked to cause bodily harm to anyone.

But the prosecutor in the case, Valeria Bolici, in her closing statement, asked the Court to confirm the criminal responsibility of Dervish and Sokol and to sentence them according to the legal limits.

During his defense, Lutfi Dervishi stated that the "Medicus" clinic had permission for kidney transplantation and that to his knowledge, only one operation had been performed at this clinic, in which he stated that he had also participated.

And anesthesiologist Sokol Hajdini was silently defended.

Lutfi Dervishi, who was the owner of the "Medicus" Clinic, in which the Prosecutor's Office claims that a kidney transplant was performed, is charged with human trafficking and organized crime, while Sokol Hajdini is charged with grievous bodily harm.

Arban Dervishi, the son of Lutfi Dervishi, was part of this trial, but the procedure against him has been separated, because he is on the run.

Urologist Lutfi Dervishi was sentenced by the Basic Court in Pristina to 8 years in prison in 2013, while Sokol Hajdini to 3 years.

The Court of Appeal then upheld Dervish's sentence, while Hajdin's prison sentence was increased from 3 years to 5.
