The prosecution shows what is happening with the case of "false veterans"
The Prosecution is working on completing the indictments for the case known as the case of "fake veterans", which has been returned to the Special Prosecution for completion and clarification.
Prosecutor Sylë Hoxha, in charge of communication with the media from the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo, says that work is currently being done to eliminate the shortcomings that the court has assessed as not being filled in the indictment.
"After completing the remarks or deficiencies that have been given, the indictment will be submitted in the normal way in the procedure, like any other indictment or as it was sent before", says Hoxha.
The Kosovo Institute for Justice estimates that this case is being deliberately prolonged by the justice system.
In this Institute that monitors the work of prosecutions and courts, they say that the Prosecution is not paying due attention to this case.
Ehat Mifaraj, executive director of the Kosovo Institute for Justice, says that it is regrettable how the Special Prosecutor's Office is handling this case.
"Actually, what is happening with this indictment is what we, as a public, have been afraid of, that for cases of such a level, the table tennis game will start to be played, which means that it will go back to the Prosecutor's Court, and to pass deadlines and be brought through the corridors of the Court and the Prosecutor's Office", emphasizes Miftaraj.
The Special Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kosovo filed an indictment, which it sent to the Basic Court in Pristina, against 12 defendants, for the case known in the public opinion as "veterans", in terms of the criminal offense of abuse of position or official authority.
But, later, the Basic Court in Pristina returned this indictment to the Special Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kosovo for completion and clarification.
Miftaraj says that it is senseless how a Special Prosecutor files an indictment and the same is incomplete and returns to the Prosecutor's Office.
"We have criticized the approach of the state prosecutor, where in such an indictment he has undergone changes, demanding that in the case of false veterans, a request for a temporary measure be submitted, as well as within the same indictment, the names and surnames, the data personal data of over 20 thousand people".
"Such a tactic and approach of the Prosecutor's Office has automatically sent messages to the public that the goal is more to prolong this case than to handle it in court", Miftaraj explains.
The Organization of War Veterans of the former Kosovo Liberation Army requests from Kosovo institutions that the issue of the status of veterans be returned to zero.
The leaders of this organization say that this should be done in order to clarify everything and remove suspicions about "fraudulent" veterans.
The justice system in Kosovo continues to remain exposed to political influence and this influence is in different forms, assess officials of Kosovo's higher institutions, as well as experts on legal issues in the country.
The case, which in recent months has sparked debate and controversy not only in public opinion, but also among institutional leaders, is the case of the "Veterans List". /REL/
