Gjakova: Suspect who attacked a police officer sent to detention

The Basic Court in Gjakova has approved the request of the Basic Prosecution Office of Gjakova, ordering a one-month detention measure for the defendant AL, due to the well-founded suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of assault on an official person.

According to the request, "On 13.10.2025, at around 07:45, on “Bardhyl Qaushi” street, the defendant intentionally seriously threatens and then physically attacks the police officer in connection with his official work, the injured party Gj. H., in such a way that on the critical day, while the defendant was at Motel “M.”, opposite the scene of the incident where a traffic accident had occurred and the injured party was his brother, SL, in revolt, while the police officers were dealing with the case, the same approaches the police officer Gj. H. and, shouting, punches him in the face, causing bodily injuries, while during the intervention, the police officer IR also suffers injuries to his hand, in which case he causes bodily injuries to the injured parties.”

With these actions, the defendant is suspected of having committed the criminal offense of "Assault on an official person" sanctioned by Article 402 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.

The pre-trial judge, Blerina Kurtaj, assessed that the legal conditions for imposing a detention order for the defendant in question have been met, because with the possible finding of the defendant at large, there is a real possibility that he will obstruct the course of the criminal proceedings by evading the proceedings or by repeating the criminal offense.

The defendant will be held in custody for a period of one month, which will be calculated from the time of arrest on October 13 and will last until November 12.

The parties have the right to appeal against this decision to the Court of Appeals of Kosovo.
