So when was chewing gum invented?

175 years ago, specifically on September 23, 1848, the first commercial chewing gum production was developed by John Curtis in Bangor, Maine in the USA.

The State of Maine Pure Spruce Gum was released on the same day.

However, the most popular and consumed form of chewing gum as we know it today, with fruit or mint flavors, began to be produced in the late 19th century by Thomas Adams, who experimented with the natural resin of a Mexican plant called 'chicle.' He managed to create the commercial product that became very popular in the US and then around the world.
