KEK with abundant production, says they are working at full capacity

The electricity production by the Kosovo Energy Corporation is abundant. KEK says that electricity is currently being produced with the capacities of the two units, Kosovo A and Kosovo B.

Even though consumption increases during cold days, KEK is ready for constant energy production, while also supplying the city's heating plant with 20 megawatts.

"We are currently working at full capacity, with 17,640 MWh for today, with two units of Kosovo A and two units of Kosovo B. The Kosovo Energy Corporation is constantly working with four units. We cannot increase or decrease capacity. It is known that consumption increases during the winter period, while we have made all the preparations and repairs. Unit B2 has also undergone turbine modernization, which has significantly increased the production capacity of this unit. We are currently producing 270-280 megawatts," said Skënder Bucolli from KEK.

Meanwhile, the Energy Regulatory Office underlines that currently the electricity market is supplied by six licensed companies, which supply different categories of consumers, in accordance with the legislation in force. These companies are supervised by ERO and have an obligation for stable and transparent supply, RTK reports.

"In terms of energy interconnections, Kosovo is connected through interconnection lines with Albania, North Macedonia and Montenegro, which constitute the main corridors for commercial exchanges of electricity. These interconnections are functional and are used for imports and exports, depending on the needs of the system and market conditions. Meanwhile, the energy border with Serbia remains blocked in terms of commercial electricity transactions, which means that commercial exchanges through this interconnection are not realized," says ERO.

Official data from the Energy Regulatory Office highlights the blockade against Serbia, which often sparks debate, especially for the EFT company, which has not been operating since 2021.

EFT was first licensed for energy trading in 2008. The second licensing was done in 2011 for supply and trading. Subsequently, licensing for energy transit and use of interconnection lines was approved in 2016. None of these decisions were taken after 2021.
