"Tirana cannot be orphans", Rama demands Veliaj's release: Criminal process in free state

Edi Rama gathered in his media studio, at the Prime Minister's Office, the five socialists running for Berat, Vlora, Tepelena, Cerriku and Mati, but his mind was on the sixth candidate who was not in the studio, Ogerta Manastirliu, writes A2 CNN.

It seems that he had not yet gotten over the Constitutional Court's decision, which definitively rejected the possibility of early elections in Tirana, commenting on it this time with voice and image.

"If Tirana will not have elections until 2027 and the Constitutional Court thinks that the mayor of Tirana cannot leave, except through elections, then we are faced with a double disproportion. Whoever has the power to help resolve this absurd impasse must remember that, beyond all other conspiracy theories, the capital cannot be treated as an orphan for years. This is a scandal in itself and it is a scandal for which the citizens of Tirana pay a cost, and the capital pays a cost every day, unjustly," said Rama.

He took his comments on the Court's decision even further, breaking his pledge not to comment on such acts. With logical deduction, he expressed the position that now, the Constitutional Court seems to be taking Veliaj out of the cell and sending him back to the office of the mayor of Tirana.

"Any normal person who does not see in the Constitutional Court's position a blind stance against the government, but to the great detriment of Tirana, but sees a firm principled stance, cannot help but expect that, with the same principle, when she judges his detention, the Constitutional Court will return Erion Veliaj to duty to continue the judicial process in a free state, right? It seems to me that this is also the most normal thing!", said Rama.

Erion Veliaj, for his part, continues to be mayor of Tirana from his detention cell in Durrës, where he went to be visited by a group from the Ombudsman institution, headed by Erinda Ballanca, regarding the conditions of his treatment.
