Trump threatens BBC with $1 billion lawsuit

Donald Trump has threatened the BBC with a $1 billion lawsuit, giving the British public broadcaster until Friday to comply with his demands. The lawsuit is based on the alleged malicious editing of the former president's speech in a BBC documentary, according to Trump's lawyers in a letter obtained by NBC News.

The letter gives the BBC until Friday, November 14, at 5pm EST (10pm UK time), to "comply" with the request, or face a legal battle, reports the BBC. Sky News.

"President Trump will have no choice but to exercise his legal and equitable rights, all of which are expressly reserved and not waived, including filing a claim for damages in the amount of at least $1,000,000,000 (one billion dollars). The BBC has been notified," a memo from Trump's legal team said.

Trump's lawyers are seeking a redaction of the disputed material.

For its part, the BBC gave a brief response: "We will review the letter and respond directly in due course," a spokesperson told NBC News.

The White House referred requests for comment to Donald Trump's external legal team.
