Trump threatens France with 200% tariffs on wines and champagnes

US President Donald Trump has threatened France with high tariffs on wine and champagne after Paris rejected his invitation to attend a so-called peace council.

"I will put a 200 percent tariff on his wines and champagne," Trump said on Monday, addressing French President Emmanuel Macron.

"Macron will be part of the body created by Trump, "but he is not obligated to participate," Trump added.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot initially rejected Trump's invitation on Monday. France was forced to "say no because the statute of this 'Peace Council' goes beyond the Gaza Strip and thus beyond the United Nations-backed peace plan," Barrot told members of parliament.Indeksonline/
