UP's budget suffers decline, professor Rexha explains the trend

University professor, Blerim Rexha, has raised concerns about the decline in the budget of the University of Pristina.

Through a public response, the professor lecturing at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering revealed that UP only benefits from 0.9% of the Kosovo budget.

According to him, this budget tends to fall even further, he writes. IndeksOnline.

Through data, Rexha claimed that in recent years there have been demands for increased performance, scientific publications, conferences and other university activities.

But, if these activities are not accompanied by budget increases, the professor predicts lower results for the coming years.

This is his full post:

The decline in the budget of the University of Pristina

These days, the University of Prishtina has started collecting budget requests from faculties, and the latter from departments – where all planning begins. A good practice, long established at UP. For almost two decades, the UP budget has been around 32 million euros (plus/minus a million). But, while 20 years ago the Kosovo budget was close to 800 million, UP consumed 3,17% of the Kosovo budget, while in recent years, when the Kosovo budget has reached 3500 – 4000 million euros, UP benefits from the budget only 0,9%, with a further downward trend!

While in recent years we have seen an increase in demands for better performance from UP: for more scientific publications, for more conferences, and for more scientific and professional activities – all rightly so, but if this is not accompanied by an increase in the budget, the result is already known to everyone. In fact, with this trend, the result is known for the coming years as well!
