Veseli in Rome: Italy supports visa liberalization

The President of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Kadri Veseli, as part of his official visit to Italy, was received today in a special meeting by the President of the Italian Senate, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, to discuss the political support of the Italian state for the lifting of visas for the citizens of Kosovo within this year.

During this meeting, the two counterparts discussed the excellent relations that Rome and official Pristina have built between them.

The President of the Assembly, Veseli, recognized the Italian speaker for the developments in Kosovo, focusing on the European agenda as a national priority.

Veseli thanked Ms. Casellati for the continuous support that the Italian state has given and is giving to the Republic of Kosovo in all directions, while requesting the support of the Senate and the Italian state in the process of visa liberalization for Kosovo citizens.

Veseli said that the country's institutions have fulfilled all the criteria set for them in this process, while the fulfillment of all criteria was assessed days ago by the European Commission, which recommends the rapid lifting of visas for Kosovo citizens.

The President of the Senate of Italy, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, emphasized that her country will continue to support Kosovo both in the direct level of interstate relations and in the framework of the European Union, especially in the current processes related to the liberalization of visas and other integration processes.

"We in Italy are on your side. We are glad that there have been positive steps in this direction. We will try to positively influence the countries of the European Union for the liberalization of visas. We appreciate the reforms in the justice system that have been made so far. I am glad that the opposition speaks with the same language as the position for such a great interest as the liberalization of visas", said Casellati.

The interlocutors agreed that the relations between the two parliaments enter a new dynamic, at all levels of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

During the official visit to Italy, Speaker Veseli is also accompanied by representatives of parliamentary groups in the Assembly of Kosovo: Glauk Konjufca (VV), Aida Dërguti (PSD), Ahmet Isufi (AAK), Srdjan Mitrovic (LS), Haxhi Shala (NISMA) and Albert Kinolli (6+).
