Zurich Airport: Passengers hand over 180,000 dangerous items
At Zurich Airport, passengers are forced to hand over a large number of items considered dangerous to flight safety. During 2024, around 180,000 such items were confiscated.
Of these, 40,000 items were seized from hand luggage, while another 140,000 were seized from checked baggage. The most common items confiscated from hand luggage are lighters, batteries, power banks, and other items such as fireworks, flares, and gas chargers.
The increase in the number of confiscated items is mainly related to the use of wireless devices such as electric scooters and electronic baby strollers, as well as the fact that many casual travelers are not familiar with the strict airport rules.
Items handed over by passengers are seized by the police. Low-value items are destroyed, while more valuable items are kept by the police for 30 days, so that they can be retrieved for a fee./Albinfo.ch
