Sheholli's arrest/ Lawyer Jashari: For espionage, the sentence can range up to 10 years in prison
Lawyer Arbër Jashari has indicated that the criminal offense of "espionage", on which Fatmir Sheholli was arrested on Thursday morning, is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, in special cases even more.
Although in the early stages of the criminal procedure, attorney Jashari emphasized that by committing the criminal offense of espionage, the state security of the Republic of Kosovo is seriously jeopardized.
"This is an early stage of the criminal procedure and predicting what will happen by the end of the procedure is always difficult, because it all depends on what will come to light from the investigative process that the Special Prosecution will conduct. Then there is the next stage of the trial, if there will be successful investigations that result in the filing of an indictment."
Whatever the criminal offense of espionage, it is a very serious criminal offense sanctioned by the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo and for which the legislator has foreseen severe penalties, which can range up to 10 years in prison, while in special cases when the damage is extremely great for the state, the penalty may be even higher.", lawyer Jashari told Ekonomia Online.
He underlined the importance of combating the act of espionage, which is used by individuals or even enemy states.
