2 people arrested for counterfeiting metal money and transporting it from North Macedonia
In its efforts to prevent negative phenomena and combat criminal offenses, the Kosovo Police, specifically the Directorate against Economic Crime and Corruption through the unit in Ferizaj, has received information through intelligence that a suspect with the initials (AL) is engaging in criminal activities, counterfeiting metal money which he is suspected of transporting from North Macedonia in his vehicle (type of vehicle known to the Police) and bringing the money to Kosovo.
On 17.01.2021 at around 11:00, the Police received information that the suspect, identified above with the initials (AL), had crossed the Hani i Elezit border crossing and the regional investigators against economic crimes in Ferizaj acted immediately on the ground, coordinated operational actions with the Hani i Elezit Border Police and in Glloboqicë the person identified (AL) was detained, together with another person (S.B.) who in this case was the driver of the vehicle (type and license plates known to the Police) owned by AL.
The police have located the driver and the owner of the vehicle, and during the search, they managed to find the hidden place (the part of the sheet metal where the rear passenger seat is held - right side, which was initially cut) the amount of metal money wrapped in paper and insulated, where one wrapper contained a total of 100 metal coins, all of 2€, where there were a total of forty (40) packages and their total amount was eight thousand (8000) Euros.
Also during the search of the vehicle, in the space between the driver's and passenger's seats, paper banknotes were found, also hidden with pieces of carpet and some other things, where there were: 1X500€; 11X100€ and 28X50€ - a total of three thousand (3000) Euros, while in the wallet of the suspect (AL) were found: 12X50€; 1X20€ and 1X5€. (More detailed checks of the vehicle will be carried out in the process)
After completing the procedures at the Glloboqicë border crossing, each time in cooperation with the prosecutor in charge, the suspects in question were brought to the Police Station in Ferizaj to be interviewed as suspects, in the presence of defense attorneys, and after the interview, with a Decision of the State Prosecutor from the Basic Prosecution Office in Ferizaj, the two suspects were sentenced to 48 hours of detention for further legal procedures.
