Selim's lawyer: There was no KLA police force, or a police force from the Ministry of Public Order, organized by Selimi

Rexhep Selim's lawyer has continued his closing statement in the trial against former KLA leaders that is being held at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, where he began his speech with the ZPS's claims about the control of KLA police files, claims that the lawyer says are an attempt by the ZPS to give a wrong impression while this argument does not hold up, reports Ekonomia Online.

“Three topics on behalf of Mr. Selimi. First, I will address the claims of the SPO regarding Mr. Selimi as Minister of Public Order. Second, I will address various aspects related to handwriting allegedly made by Mr. Selimi and third, I will talk about the exceptions to Rule 140 that the SPO covers in some parts of its file. First topic; Ministry of Public Order. Issues to be addressed in our final file in the relevant paragraphs. The main issue in the SPO’s submission is the fact of control if Mr. Selimi had any control over the police as Minister of Public Order. As I will explain to you in a moment, the SPO has failed to substantiate its arguments. Before we proceed with the aspect of control in full, I will address a preliminary issue, to be clear, the term KLA police is a SPO thesis designed as a box where the SPO can "... throw as much evidence as possible through non-verbal evidence to give the wrong impression that a police force exists and is led by Mr. Selimi as Minister of Public Order. It is an attempt by the ZPS to give a wrong impression while this argument does not hold up," he said.

The lawyer emphasizes that the military police were not under Selim's command and no KLA police existed.

"After June, the KLA and the KLA military police were under the command and structures and responsibility of the zone commanders, and were not under the responsibility of Mr. Selimi. As we said in our final file in paragraph 452 after June 99, the KLA military police remained under the command and within the created structures of the KLA under the control of the zone commanders, and not under Selimi. There was no such KLA police, or Ministry of Public Order that was organized, or supervised by Selimi as the ZPS claims," he emphasized.
