Begaj: We expect help from the government for economic recovery
The municipality of Malisheva, which is one of the municipalities with the highest number of Covid-19 cases, has not recorded any new cases for several days. Out of 76 people infected, 71 have recovered, one has died, and four are being treated.
However, the biggest concern remains the economy. The mayor of this municipality, Ragip Begaj, said he hopes that the Kosovo government will also come to the aid of Malisheva with the emergency package for municipalities.
The mayor of Malisheva says that the economic damage in this municipality is considerable, but his priority at this time is health management, more specifically the situation created by Covid-19.
"We have asked for help and businesses themselves are asking for help directly, we are waiting as a municipality, a package that they have foreseen for municipalities, let's see how they will support the municipality of Malisheva. The economic consequences are not easy, however my main goal is, not to have consequences for people, when people's lives were saved, of course we will take their lives slowly," says Begaj.
Begaj says that the entire situation created by the Covid-19 pandemic, as a municipality, has been managed at the appropriate level, while emphasizing that 1,800 families in social situations have been helped by donors.
"I believe we have managed the situation well, despite our circumstances, we will feel the economic consequences later, however, we have supplied 1,800 families to thank the donors... However, I believe that the government will also include these people who have worked in its package and will have consideration for them," he says.
After the lifting of quarantine in the municipality of Malisheva, Begaj says that citizens are continuing to respect the rules.
"The rules in the municipality of Malisheva have been respected at all times, we have also made additional decisions as the Municipal Assembly, due to the situation we have had, now we have removed those decisions in force, the government's decisions are being implemented meticulously," says Begaj.
