Drug arrests in every police report, mostly young users
Kosovo Police 24-hour reports consistently highlight drug-related cases, including arrests, seizures of marijuana, and criminal proceedings for unauthorized possession or distribution. In the last report alone, three separate cases were recorded in the Pristina and Gjilan regions.
In the village of Babush i Muhaxherëve in Lipjan, police arrested a Kosovar male suspect after two bags of marijuana were found on him during a search. By decision of the prosecutor, he has been taken into custody.
In the village of Miloševë, Obiliq, 3.6 grams of marijuana were seized from a female suspect. After the interview, the case was processed in regular procedure.
The most serious case was reported in the village of Dobercan, Gjilan, where a Serbian citizen was arrested. During the search, police found and seized 541.3 grams of marijuana and 10,200 dinars. The suspect was taken into custody by decision of the prosecutor.
These cases are just a reflection of a phenomenon that is being repeated almost daily in police reports.
According to official data, in the period January-November 2025, a total of 893 people suspected of drug-related criminal offenses were arrested, of which 440 people were specifically arrested for possession of narcotics.
Regarding seizures, during this period, about 1,332 kilograms of narcotics were seized, of which 1.52 kg of heroin, 1,310 kg of marijuana, 19.5 kg of cocaine and smaller quantities of hashish, cannabis seeds and the drug ecstasy. In addition, 6,587 cannabis plants were also confiscated in separate units.
Statistics from recent years show fluctuations, but a stable level of cases and arrests: 2021: 726 cases, 792 people arrested; 2022: 808 cases, 1,038 people arrested; 2023: 678 cases, 859 people arrested; 2024: 567 cases, 705 people arrested; 2025: 722 cases investigated, 936 people arrested.
These figures prove that, despite temporary declines in a few years, the phenomenon remains present and has a considerable impact. According to reported data, the average age of Kosovar drug users is mainly young, ranging from around 20 to 35 years old. /rtk/
