Exclusive: Xhabir Zharku tried to escape again, caught at the airport
The former mayor of Kaçanik, Xhabir Zharku, was arrested last Saturday by Kosovo Police.
This was done on suspicion of abuse of official position during his time as mayor of Kaçanik.
Sources of IndeksonlineInside the security organs, they learn that Xhabir Zharku had attempted to escape again this time to avoid arrest by the Kosovo Police.
But thanks to police vigilance, he was caught at Pristina Airport shortly before flying to Sweden, the country where he found refuge for 5 years while he was being sentenced by Kosovo justice.

The Economic Crimes Police had been investigating Xhabir Zharku for months and were on the verge of arrest. But according to sources Indeksonline"Someone" from above had given him signals that he was on the verge of arrest and that he should escape.
Upon receiving this information, the former mayor of Kaçanik had boarded the Pristina airport to flee Kosovo to Sweden, but since he was under surveillance by the Kosovo Police, he was caught at the airport terminal and his attempt to escape, like last time, failed.
Of course, police investigations must now be expanded to understand which state or political officials had given this information to Xhabir Zharku to escape justice.
On Monday, at the request of the Basic Prosecution Office of Ferizaj, the Basic Court of this city sentenced Xhabir Zharku to 30 days of pre-trial detention.
The reasons in the ruling of the Basic Court of Ferizaj for this measure are as stated "taking into account the nature of the criminal offense, where in the specific case the defendant is accused of the criminal offense of abuse of official position or authority.
And this falls under the chapter of criminal offenses against official duty and the punishability provided for this criminal offense are circumstances that justify the measure of detention as a measure to ensure the presence of the defendant in the criminal procedure and its successful implementation, as well as the fact that the defendant had previously been on the run to avoid another criminal procedure, namely the execution of the 3-year prison sentence imposed on him by the former District Court in Pristina.
"Also, the fact that he is also a citizen of Sweden is a circumstance that indicates the potential risk that the defendant, if at liberty, could easily flee or abscond with the aim of avoiding the successful implementation of the criminal procedure," the ruling of the Basic Court of Ferizaj states, among other things.
