Start or cancellation of the championship? MCYS with a big decision!

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Vlora Dumoshi, today held a meeting with the President of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, Besim Hasani, and the heads of sports federations to coordinate actions and steps, after the easing of isolation measures due to the COVID- 19.

Minister Dumoshi has asked the sports organizations to specifically report to the Department of Sports what stage they are in and what are the emergency needs they have so that the institutions responsible for the management of the pandemic in Kosovo, the Ministry of Health and other related institutions clarify how the continuation of athletes' preparations and the development of sports competitions in the respective federations will be carried out.

Among other things, the minister stated that the MKRS has signed memorandums with each sports organization and to prove its support and cooperation with the KOK and the sports federations, it has invited their leaders to clarify and coordinate the next steps to gradually start the sports life in place until normal.

"We, together with the KOK and the sports federations in the Republic of Kosovo, will address a joint letter to the health institutions in our country to clarify and allow the start of preparations, sportsmen's exercises and the continuation of competitions and other sports activities", said Minister Dumoshi, evaluating it as a right step and in the interest of all sports organizations because the unanimous request without treating each sport separately shows a unity that prevails in Kosovo's sports and shows the discipline that characterizes it.

"Kosovo should also look at the countries of the region to see what steps they have taken in this direction, how they will start the commitments and sports activities, and together we will come up with a joint request to the health institutions for the permission and the appropriate steps for the federations for their activities planned for this year", the minister explained further.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the KOK, Besim Hasani, informed the minister that the KOK has held a virtual meeting with the sports federations to be informed about the situation of each federation, at what stage they are and which of them, based on of the specifics they have, they can immediately start with exercises and competitions.

President Hasani said that individual work has been done by the athletes even in this time of isolation. Our focus has been on the Olympic team and the national teams on how they have performed. It was found and evaluated that it is best to make a joint request and not an individual request from the federations for the release of isolation measures to allow the development of sports activities and this should go through MKRS.

Also, the meeting discussed other problems and challenges that the sports federations will face this year, but that together the MKRS in cooperation with the KOK and the federations will do everything possible to back to normal.
