Strange village, first son born after 10 years

A village where only female babies were born for 10 years has finally witnessed the birth of a boy.

The village of Miejsce Odrzańskie in southern Poland, which has a population of 300, became famous when the headman offered a reward to the first couple to give birth to a boy.

Now, after 10 months, a boy has finally been born. The headman told The First News: "It's wonderful news, especially in these times of coronavirus. Every birth is special, but this gives us hope for the future. Bartek (the baby's name) is not just a boy, but a boy from Miejsce Odrzańskie."

The Polish village is very small and has seen a steady decline in population as young girls left to find partners and start families.

Authorities in the one-street village of about 300 residents cannot provide any explanation as to why there has been no male birth since 2010.
